Anton Cornelis Zijderveld (1937) studied Theology and Sociology and became professor emeritus Philosophy. He wrote numerous articles and became an influential political advisor on social issues and he warned the CDA (Dutch Christian Democratical party) for the populism of Geert Wilders. When cooperation with Wilders' party wasn't ruled out by the CDA he left politics and wrote the essay Populism, Political Quicksand (2009) which was edited for a German edition. He also co-wrote In Praise of Doubt with Peter L. Berger and his latest essay is called Why We Laugh
