Jowi Schmitz (1972) is a writer and cultural journalist. She studied Cultural Studies at the University of Amsterdam and as a journalist she wrote theater reviews for NRC Handelsblad. In 2004 she received a prestigious grand with which she obtained a fellowship at the Columbia University at New York. She used her time on the subway and in several Starbucks to write her debut novel Leopold (2005). In 2011 she wrote a highly successful young-adult book of which the German translation Olivia. Manchmal kommt das Glück von ganz allein (Hanser Verlag) has received the LUCHS Preis in January 2013. In 2014 we published her personal story of the premature birth of her son Milo.
